2014 CLOSING SOCIAL

Greetings Sun Hills Ladies!

We had a very successful 2014 Closing Social at Golden Corral in Layton.  There were door prizes for all and some very nice raffle items.  Thanks to the generosity of you all, we raised enough in the raffle to be able to fund a good portion of the 2015 Opening Social!

Business Items:

We voted on 3 potential formats for the Club Championship.  Proposal #1 was adopted.  That kept the current format.  The members were reminded that all efforts will be made to honor pairing requests, but there may be times when that may not be possible. 

Brenda resigned from her post as Prize chair.  Janice Ventura was elected to fill that vacancy.  Welcome to the Board Janice!

Dodie and Judi announced that 2015 would be the last year they will serve as Tournament Chair and Handicap Chair respectively.  Michelle will be the Tournament Chair apprentice next year.  She will then take over that position in 2016. 

At that time her post as Social Chair will be vacant.  We encourage you to put your heads together and find someone among you who will be willing to plan our socials.

It was proposed that POD winnings in 2015 be spent in the Sun Hills Pro Shop rather than be awarded in Target gift cards.  A vote was taken and the Sun Hills Pro Shop was adopted.  This will be reflected in the 2015 revision of the league by-laws.

Lastly, I must apologize for not having any pictures in this post.  The memory card in my camera is corrupted and all pictures are gone.  I know you were all waiting on the edge of your seat for them and thus, SOOOO disappionted.  However, have no fear...the camera will be up and running with a new card for the Opening Social!!!!!

The Dice Roll is intended for FUN times!  Hopefully that's what we all took from it.  However, there were winners and here they are...Congrats!

Hello!

I have had a number of ladies ask if we were going to play DICE ROLL this year.  Since the POD we have scheduled this week is new and complicated, I have taken decided to replace that one with DICE ROLL.

When you check in, you will be given your dice and instructions.  When you're done, be sure to turn your dice in.

GLEN EAGLE TOURNAMENT INFORMATION

There were quite a few ladies from Sun Hills that golfed in 2 tournaments at Glen Eagle this year.  So far the scores for these tournaments have NOT been posted. 

Judi called Glen Eagle and asked if they would be posting these scores.  She was informed that they will NOT be posting these scores. 

In order for our handicaps to reflect how we play in all areas - league, tournament or recreational - all of our scores need to be posted.  Judi has asked that if you participants can remember your scores, please go into UGA.ORG and post them yourselves.  Please remember to indicate that these are TOURNAMENT scores.

2014 CLOSING SOCIAL "AMENDED"

Ladies...This year the Closing Social will be held at the Golden Corral in Layton.  It has been a long time since we went off site to close our year so we thought this would be fun for a change.  There will still be no cost to you. Please note... will NOT be taking wine to the restaurant.

There are be a couple of very important issues that will be discussed at the business meeting.  We would like as many league members as possible to be there for these discussions.

Greetings Ladies!  Wow!  We only had 27 ladies come out to play FOUR SCORE this week!  It was a great day and some great scores were shot on the Par 4 holes.  Again, thanks Kathy for the suggestion!

Greetings!  WOW is all I can say for how well you ladies know your clubs!  The scores for this week's POD using only 4 clubs were awesome!  Even though we only had 33 ladies participate, it appears that good time was had by most.  Congrats to the winners!

MUTT & JEFF - August 20, 2014

Greetings Ladies!

Well, we had a very slow Wednesday for "Mutt & Jeff".  There were only 27 ladies.  Mother Nature didn't help much! 

For those of you who aren't as ancient as I, Mutt & Jeff were cartoon figures.  Mutt was very short and Jeff was very tall.  This leads to the idea of only counting the par 3 hole and par 5 holes.  There were some good scores last week.

CHICKEN SALAD RECIPE

Per numerous requests, here is the recipe for the delicious Chicken Salad Micheller served at the Club Championship.  Thanks, Micheller!  Enjoy!!!

Ingredients:

Servings:

NOTE: the curry is optional. I didn't put any in the salad.

• 2 cups diced cooked chicken breasts (can used canned)
• 1 cup grapes, cut in half
• 1/2 cup diced celery
• 1 cup diced fresh apple
• 3 -4 tablespoons chopped nuts
• 1/2 teaspoon curry (optional)
• 1/2 lemon, juice of
• 1 cup mayonnaise

Directions:

1. Place chicken, grapes, celery apple and nuts in a bowl. Mix together mayonnaise, lemon juice and curry and fold into chicken mixture. Serve on a lettuce leaf or on a croissant.
    
    

SEPTEMBER MYSTERY PLAYS

Greetings Ladies!

Well, believe it or not we have only ONE week left in August!  WOW...where did the time go?  This means that we will begin the Mystery Plays in 2 weeks on September 3.

As we have done the past couple of years, we are asking you if there is a new POD you would like us to try.  It can be something you've played somewhere else, a play you've heard about, or one that you invented.

Please email your ideas to me in the next week and lets have some fun.  I already have a couple of ideas in mind, but they are not set in stone.  I'd love to have a lot of ideas to choose from.

Hey!  We had a great turnout for the final POD before the Club Championship.  There were 51 ladies this week!!  Fantastic!  There were all kinds of "NUTTS" out there.  Here are the nutty winners!  Congrats!!!  AMENDED...Typo on Jeannine's score and flight break!  No payouts changed!  ;(

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP INFORMATION

Greetings Ladies!

As the Club Championship inches closer, Judi has been busy determining members' eligibility to compete for Club Champion. 

There are just a couple of ladies who don't have the required number of PODs to be eligible to compete.  Judi has contacted each of these ladies and they are aware of what they need for their eligibility.  If anyone has any questions regarding their eligibility, you can give Judi a call (801-941-4897) and she will help you.  Otherwise, "No news is good news" so we'll see you there!

The cost for the Championship is $45.  This includes $35 for greens fees and mandatory cart, plus the $10 entry fee.  For the Championship, NO PUNCH PASSES will be accepted.  

All monetary payouts will be in the form of gift certificates to Sun Hills.  We will be paying 1st, 2nd and 3rd Gross and Net in each flight.  There will be Closest to the Hole contests on #6, #8, #13 & #15.

Any lady who gets their tee shot on the green on #3 will receive a sleeve of balls.  We will have a Closest to the Squiggly Line and Closest to the Straight Line contests.  The winners of these will receive a 9-hole pass to Sun Hills.

There will be Tee Prizes and treats to help get us through the round.  And, our awesome Social Committee has a delicious dinner planned for us after the competition.

Deadline to sign-up is this Wednesday, August 6.  If you haven't done so already, please do so by then.

CRIERS & WHINERS - July 23, 2014

Greetings Ladies!  It appears the Pioneer Day holiday took quite a few of our members on fun vacations.  As a result, we only had 34 ladies play this week.  With so few ladies, we only had 3 flights to "Cry" and "Whine" in.  We hope you all enjoyed this POD.  Here are the "Whiney Winners" for this week.  Congrats!!!

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP ELIGIBILITY

Hi Ladies,

With the Club Championship coming up on August 13, we wanted to make sure that everyone was aware of their eligibility to compete for Club Champion.

According to league by-laws, ladies who have been playing on the league more than 3 consecutive years must have played in at least 5 weekly PODs.  Ladies who have been on the league less than 4 years must have played at least 8 weekly PODs.

Judi has compiled a listing of all of the POD's we participated in through July 2 of this season.  It also shows the rounds required and rounds remaining to compete.  She will update this list weekly so everyone knows where they stand. 

If there are any questions on eligibility, please contact Judi.  She will also be getting in touch with any of you who may need some help.

RED, WHITE & BLUE - July 9, 2014

Greetings Ladies!  What a wild ride the Red, White and Blue turned out to be!  Most all of us were in the same boat (in rough water) although we had a couple of ladies who didn't let it bother their game.  Something worth mentioning...our Closest to the Hole winners, Karen and Karlee, achieved their success from the BLUE tees!  Way to go!  After tangling with a number of scorecard playoffs, here are the winners...CONGRATS!

Greetings!  We had 43 ladies come out to "Beat the Pro or Someone".  Paul shot a 37.  We had 24 ladies who had net scores below 37.  Here they are!  Congrats!!!

Greetings!  We had 39 ladies come out to putter around last Wednesday.  There were some putters that had definitely been sighted in for the round!  We had quite a few ties that had to go to a scorecard playoff.  Congrats to all the eagle-eyed winners last week!

BEAUTY & THE BEAST

Hey Ladies!  It's getting close to Beauty & the Beast time.  We moved it to July 16th this year.  The sign-up sheet is on the table by the bulletin board.  So grab your favorite HE beast and sign-up soon.  The deadline for signing up is July 9th.

The format is a scramble.  The cost is $50 a couple.  For this event, punch cards WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.  Dinner will be served and prizes awarded after golf.   If you have any questions you can contact me and I will be happy to answer them for you!

LOW NET - June 16, 2014

Greetings Ladies!  Well for Low Net last week we had 32 ladies competing.  Some pretty good scores were shot.  Congratulations to the winners!!

2014 MEMBER/GUEST OUTING

Hello Sun Hills Ladies!

We had an exceptionally successful Member/Guest outing last week.  Amazingly, we didn't get rained out.  This was the second year!  Maybe the tides are turning.  We had 64 ladies in attendance.  This is very close to a record.

We had some wonderful raffle baskets donated by Janice Ventura.  The proceeds of the raffle went to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.  Thanks to Janice and her friends for their generosity.

We also combined our annual RALLY FOR THE CURE  with the Member/Guest night.  Thanks to Brenda to taking over the reins from Marian to coordinate this event.  We had some very generous ladies this year.  Between the RALLY and the raffle we were able to donate $1,125 to the Foundation!  Thanks to everyone for supporting the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Our Social Chair, Micheller and her committee extraordinaire, Becky, Kristin, Janice, Jane, Jeannine and Jill, prepared a fantastic meal for us.  The taco salads and all the fixings were out of this world.  Thanks so much for your caring and TLC you put into the evening.  

Lastly...my sincere apologies for forgetting the camera to record this fantastic event!  Rest assured, I'll make up for it at Beauty and the Beast!  LOL!!

Thanks for being the best league around!  Your support is what keeps us going!

Hi!  For those of you who logged into the BLOG yesterday and saw we were playing "Blind Draw" this week, I had to change to POD.  Why, you ask?  Because "Blind Draw" requires everyone to have an established handicap and we have a couple of ladies who are still working on that. We have always had PODs that didn't require handicaps until after the deadline which is June 15th.

With that being said, I have switched this week's POD to "Dots & Putts".  See the instructions below.  Have fun!!!

50th ANIVERSARY

After being married for 50 years, I took a careful look at my wife one day and said, "Fifty years ago we had a cheap house, a junk car, slept on a sofa bed and watched a 10-inch black and white TV, but I got to sleep every night with a hot 23-year-old girl.

 

Now ... I have a $750,000 home, a $45,000 car, a nice big bed and a large screen TV, but I'm sleeping with a 73-year-old woman. It seems to me that you're not holding up your side of things."

 

My wife is a very reasonable woman. She told me to go out and find a hot 23-year-old girl and she would make sure that I would once again be living in a cheap house, driving a junk car, sleeping on a sofa bed and watching a 10-inch black and white TV.

 

Aren't older women great? They really know how to solve an old guy's problems!

2014 MEMBER/GUEST 2 WOMAN SCRAMBLE - June 11, 2014

Greetings !  Sun Hills Ladies Member/Guest Scramble is just around the corner.  This year it will be held on June 11, 2014.  There will be a sign-up sheet on our bulletin board table.  To ensure we have enough food and other good stuff, please sign up early.  

Although we would love to have everyone bring a guest,  if your "guest" is your playing partner, just come and play with them.  Be sure to sign up and indicate the name of who you will be playing with.  We would love all of you to play!  

As we have in past years, we will also be sponsoring a "RALLY FOR THE CURE" to benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation.  Contributing to the Rally is NOT required to participate in the Member/Guest.  So please come out and enjoy yourselves either way!

Hello Sun Hills Ladies!  Mother Nature rebounded nicely and gave us a pretty nice day for golf last Wednesday.  As a result, the 47 ladies who played were all winners in that respect!  Mother Nature may have been nice, but the Sun Hills greens definitely weren't giving out many one putts.  Here are the eagle-eyed winners of our Low Putt POD!  There were quite a few scorecard playoffs.  Congrats!!!

3 BLIND MICE - April 23, 2014

Greetings!  Well, this past week we only had 24 diehard ladies come out to play 3 Blind Mice.  Hats off to you dedicated souls!  The "3 Blind Mice" that Kody and Nick picked were holes #1, #3 and #7.  After deducting these holes from your scores, here are the winners for April 23!  Congrats!!!

FIRST ANNUAL SUN HILLS LADIES TOURNAMENT

Greetings Ladies!  Sun Hills will be hosting their 1st Annual 2-Women Four Ball tournament on June 5th.  This tournament is open to all women UGA members in Utah.  The registration period opens on May 1st.  If you are interested in playing, you will need to mail your registration form to Sun Hills.  Please make sure it is postmarked May 1, 2014 to avoid possibly not getting into the tournament.  The field is limited to 88 players/44 groups.

GUTTS - April 16, 2014

Greetings Ladies!  Well, we had 39 members with the "Gutts" (TeeHee) to come out and play this last week.  Gutts is always a fun POD and here are the ladies who had the most fun!  Congrats to you Guttsy winners!

CAROL REHLING

Ladies,

It's with great sadness that we announce the passing of Carol Rehling, a former member of Sun Hills Ladies Golf Association.  She passed away yesterday after a heroic battle with ovarian cancer.

Although a lot of you don't know her, Carol was an integral part of the early days of Sun Hills Ladies Golf.  Her early membership in the league helped set the standards which we now follow.  Her passion for golf and all the good it can bring was very instrumental in making our league what is is today.

Carol was a 4 time Club Champion at Sun Hills - 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002.

Although she left our league some time ago, we were able to keep in touch with her through her participation in the Northern Utah Women's Golf Association.

Northern Utah golf has lost a wonderful lady.  She will be missed.

TOSS 1 PAR 3 & 1 PAR 4, April 9, 2014

Greetings Ladies!  We are finally playing golf!  I think most of us were ready as we had a great turnout of 48 ladies!  Thanks for getting the 2014 season underway!

Just a reminder that at last season's Closing Social it was decided that ALL ties this year would be broken with a "scorecard play-off" in order to avoid very small payouts.  I had to do this on all flights this week.  If anyone has any questions on how the winners were determined, you can catch me (Dodie) at Sun Hills on Wednesday around 3ish or email me at the address on the BLOG.

APRIL BIRTHDAYS

2014 OPENING SOCIAL

We had a great opening social this year.  So many of our ladies survived the winter and are returning to play this year!  Also, we have 4 ladies returning after taking a year off and, so far, one new member.  WELCOME to everyone!

It was Micheller's maiden voyage into the Social Zone.  She has a great committee to help her and they prepared a wonderful meal for us.  Thanks MICHELLER, BECKY KANO, KRISTIN KANO AND JANICE VENTURA!!!
