NOTE ON FRIDGE

Note on Fridge

I came home from the golf course today.

The wife had left a note on the fridge:

"IT'S NOT WORKING, I can't take it anymore!!  Gone to stay with my Mother."

I opened the fridge, the light came on, and the beer was cold...

What the hell is she talking about?

THANKS, JANIE!

David Letterman's Top Ten Reasons Why Golf Is Better Than Sex......

#10... A below par performance is considered damn good.
#09... You can stop in the middle, have a cheeseburger and a couple of beers.
#08... It's much easier to find the sweet spot.
#07... Foursomes are encouraged.
#06... You can still make money doing it as a senior.
#05... Three times a day is possible.
#04... Your partner doesn't hire a lawyer if you play with
 someone else.
#03... If you live in Florida, you can do it almost every day.
#02... You don't have to cuddle with your partner when
 you're finished.

And the NUMBER ONE reason why golf is better than sex.....

#01... When your equipment gets old you can replace it!

AGAIN...THANKS, JANE!!

GOLF AND WHAT IT ALL MEANS

Golf can best be defined as an endless series of tragedies obscured by the occasional miracle, followed by a good bottle of beer.

Golf! You hit down to make the ball go up. You swing left and the ball goes right. The lowest score wins. And on top of that, the winner buys the drinks.

Golf is harder than baseball. In golf, you have to play your foul balls.

If you find you do not mind playing golf in the rain, the snow, even during a hurricane, here's a valuable tip: your life is in trouble.

Golfers who try to make everything perfect before taking the shot rarely make a perfect shot.

The term 'mulligan' is really a contraction of the phrase 'maul it again.'

A 'gimme' can best be defined as an agreement between two golfers ....neither of whom can putt very well.

An interesting thing about golf is that no matter how badly you play; it is always possible to get worse.

Golf's a hard game to figure. One day you'll go out and slice it and shank it, hit into all the traps and miss every green. The next day you go out and for no reason at all you really stink.

If your best shots are the practice swing and the 'gimme putt', you might wish to reconsider this game.

Golf is the only sport where the most feared opponent is you.

Golf is like marriage: If you take yourself too seriously it won't work, and both are expensive.

The best wood in most amateurs' bags is the pencil.

THANKS, JANE!!!

CLOSING SOCIAL

Another year in the books!  The Board would like to express our sincere appreciation to all the members of Sun Hills Ladies Twilight Golf Association.  Again, you have made this league the very BEST!!!!!  THANK YOU LADIES!

The Closing Social a a grand success!  Tacey and the staff at The Island Buffalo Grill prepared us a delectable meal.  YUMMO!

Two important accomplishments were recognized:  Kelly Montoya was our Most Improved for 2013 with a 4.1 stroke improvement in her UGA Index.  Dara Schofield won the Ringer in 2013 with a 38 stroke improvement!  WOW!  Congrats to Kelly and Dara!!

We had bright and classy tote bags with a choose your own prize for all who attended.  The raffle baskets we had were outstanding!  We raised enough money to cover some of the costs for the Opening Social.  YAY!

We voted on and passed an amendment to the league constitution and by-laws.  The revised edition can be seen by opening the "By-Laws" tab on the home page of this BLOG.

We had elections.  Our Social Chair, Vicki Miya and her committee, Marie and Tracy, chose not to run again.  We would like to thank them for the delicious meals they prepared for the league this past year.  We were afraid that the league would lose its "social standing" until Michelle Heller volunteered to take that responsibility.  Jeannine Bird and Janice Ventura immediately offered to be on her committee!  Thanks to Michelle and all those who will help her.  You are all very appreciated.

The rest of the Board was re-elected by acclamation.

We discussed PODs and it was decided that the One-Woman Scramble would be played in September.  Criers and Whiners and the New Red, White and Blue would be moved into the regular April to August rotation.  Any other POD suggestions need to be emailed to Dodie by January 1, 2014.  Please include instructions!

For all ties in weekly PODs and Club Championship, we decided to do scorecard play-offs rather than have very small payouts to a lot of members.  This will be decided by the lowest score on the most difficult hole.

Next year it will cost $5 to participate in the Ringer with the money collected being given back to the top 3 improvers in cash!  This will be discussed again at the Opening Social.

We had a discussion regarding trophies and payouts for the Club Championship.  It was decided that we would no longer give trophies to everyone who placed in the Championship.  The Club Champion will be given a remembrance of some sort as well as money.  We will continue to pay 40% of the field.

Enough business...lets get on to the pictures!!!

 SEE YOU ALL NEXT SPRING!!!!!

CLOSING SOCIAL ALERT!!

Hello Sun Hills Ladies!

Our Closing Social is just around the corner.  This year it is absolutely vital that you sign up so we can have an accurate count of attendees.  Why you ask?  That's easy...it is going to be catered this year!  Vicki, Tracy and Marie did so well with the food budget this year, that along with our sponsor donations, we have enough in the league account to have it catered.

One of our major sponsors, Island Buffalo Grill will be preparing us a delicious meal of:

Roast Pork Tenderloin w/ Mushroom Gravy
Garlic Mashed Potatoes
Tossed Salad
Asiago Cheese Rolls
Eclair Cake

So please, if you plan on attending and have NOT signed up, please email Dodie TODAY!!!  That's Sunday, September 29, 2013.  It is the FINAL day we can get meals ordered!!!

We hope to see you all there!!!

CRIERS & WHINERS

Greetings Ladies!

The POD for Wednesday, September 18 is called "CRIERS & WHINERS".

Criers and Whiners is a game of do-overs, or mulligans, that can be used from any point on the golf course. In Criers and Whiners, handicaps are converted into free shots that are used during the round.

Say a player has a handicap of 20. Rather than using the player's full handicap, the game will be played with two-thirds of the player's 9 hole handicap. That encourages the player to be judicious in using his replay strokes.  For the 20 handicap, the player will be given 6 free shots to use at any point on the course, at any time during the round. Hit a bad shot off the second tee? Hit it again. Now you have 5 left.

Two other conditions apply: The first tee shot of the day may not be replayed, and no shot can be replayed twice.

Your Criers and Whiners free shot quota will be available at the check-in desk.  PLEASE DON'T FORGET TO GET THEM BEFORE YOU START TO PLAY.  Please note on your scorecard when you use your do-overs so you don't lose track of them!

We hope you have fun with this POD!!!!

RED, WHITE & BLUE - September 11, 2013

Hello Ladies!  This past Wednesday the POD was Red, White & Blue.  We had a particularly up and down day, weatherwise and decisionwise.

There was a point in the afternoon that it looked as if there were only 6 ladies that were playing.  That was after we checked with Sun Hills' starter as to whether there were any ladies on the course or on the books for a tee time.  At that point, Cara, Kathy, Kelly and Kim arrived were told to just play a normal round and don't worry about the POD.

Later that night we discovered that there were, indeed, 4 ladies on the course playing Red, White and Blue.  Also, 2 others, Jeannine and Jill, who showed up to play and were told to just play regular golf.

At that point the decision was made to have the POD since 10 ladies had paid and played.  We want to give our sincerest apologies to Cara, Jeannine, Jill, Kathy, Kelly and Kim for the mix-up and taking away their chance to do the POD.  In the future, there will be an exact procedure we follow when considering cancelling POD's.

So, now, congrats to the ladies who Red, White and Blued it to the Winners Circle!!!
